Mac screen recording permission for EV Dash Hub: what to check

Screen capture permission and touch-control permission do different jobs. If the app cannot capture the Mac display, check Screen Recording. If video works but Tesla taps do nothing, investigate the control setting and Accessibility permission instead.

Find the screen-capture permission

Apple’s current guidance places screen recording controls under System Settings, Privacy & Security, then Screen & System Audio Recording. Wording can vary by macOS version. Find EV Dash Hub in that list and make sure permission is enabled for the installed app. Approve any system authentication yourself; the website cannot grant this permission on your behalf.

Quit and reopen the installed app

If you changed permission while the companion was open, follow the system’s restart prompt or quit and reopen the app before starting a new session. Make sure you are launching the intended installed copy rather than an older copy left in Downloads. A new local build can have a different signature, and an old permission entry may no longer correspond to the app you are opening.

Treat touch control as a separate step

For optional Mac control, enable touch access in the companion and follow its macOS permission request. Then turn on the app’s Tesla touchscreen control option. Test with an ordinary non-sensitive window. If the picture is updating but no click reaches the Mac, repeatedly changing the video preset is unlikely to fix a missing control permission.

Do not confuse connection failures with permission failures

A browser message that a site cannot be reached is different from a screen-capture permission prompt. Confirm that the companion is running, the devices are online, and you are using the hosted display page. The Mac app captures the screen; the Tesla browser receives it. A network problem can stop pairing even when every Mac permission is correct.

When to contact support

Record the macOS version, app version, and exact wording of the prompt. Explain whether the app fails before pairing, shows a blank view, or streams video without touch. Avoid sending account passwords or sensitive desktop content. Apple signing remains pending for the current Mac beta; a download warning is a separate issue from capture permission.
